Theatre Festival “7”: A Guide to the Performances

On 26 August, Kyiv’s largest theatre festival, “7”, returns, with EVERLEGAL once again among its partners. We invite you to immerse yourself in the world of contemporary Ukrainian art together with us.

A little about each performance:

  • 26 August at 19:00: “Cassandra” — a tragedy based on Lesia Ukrainka’s dramatic poem, telling the story of Cassandra, the heroine of ancient mythology who foresees future catastrophes but is unable to prevent them. In 2026, “Cassandra” was shortlisted for the VIII All-Ukrainian Theatre Festival-Award “GRA” in the category of Best Large-Stage Drama Performance.
  • 27 August at 19:00: “Lord of the Flies” — a parable based on William Golding’s world-famous dystopian novel, in which a group of children find themselves stranded on a deserted island after a plane crash.
  • 28 August at 19:00: “I See You’re Interested in Darkness” — one of the most talked-about productions in this year’s programme. The psychological thriller follows criminal psychologist Andrii Haister, who travels to the village of Buskiv Sad to investigate the disappearance of a young girl and encounters the disturbing peculiarities of its residents.
  • 29 August at 18:00: Schmalgauzen and “Mattia Pascal” — a production by the well-known theatre and music group about Mattia Pascal, a singer at a Milan cabaret, and his pianist friend, centred around the question: “Do ‘memories’ have anything in common with ‘reality’?”
  • 30 August at 19:00: “The Aeneid” — Ivan Kotliarevsky’s timeless poem reinterpreted by the Veterans Theatre. The roles are performed by active servicemen and veterans of the Russo-Ukrainian war, including people with amputations and severe injuries, who, despite their physical trauma, demonstrate remarkable strength and resilience on stage.
  • 31 August at 19:00: “Lymerivna” — Panas Myrnyi’s classic of Ukrainian literature and one of the finest examples of Ukrainian melodrama. The production was once named by critics among the best Ukrainian theatre performances and received the “GRA” award for Best Chamber Stage Performance.
  • 1 September at 19:00: “The Cripple of Inishmaan” — one of the best-known plays by Oscar-winning screenwriter, playwright and director Martin McDonagh. A tragicomedy about loneliness, dreams, cruelty and hope, following a young man from a small Irish island who longs to break free from the confines of his everyday life.

For EVERLEGAL, partnering with Theatre Festival “7” is about more than supporting an event. It is about supporting contemporary Ukrainian culture, bold ideas and the people who create new meanings.
