What awaits Genesis, suspected of deceptive subscription schemes: commentary by an EVERLEGAL Counsel
In June 2026, the U.S. Federal Trade Commission (FTC) filed a lawsuit against Genesis Tech in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California. On June 17, 2026, the FTC published an official press release about it.
What happens next in the Genesis case?
The Commission has obtained a temporary restraining order from the court, which is already "freezing" the activities mentioned in the lawsuit. The federal court will next have to decide whether to extend the ban or make it permanent, or impose additional sanctions.
"The vast majority of cases end in settlement agreements rather than going to trial. In particular, these typically involve a permanent ban on certain business practices, multi-year monitoring (compliance), and financial redress. The amounts vary significantly depending on the scale of the business", – sums up Oleksandr Demchuk.
The counsel noted that the outcome of such cases is generally determined on a case-by-case basis, taking into account the nature of the violations, their consequences, and the scale of the company’s operations.
