Sustainable development in the hospitality and tourism sector: key takeaways from the Bukovel event

On 20 November 2025, the event “Sustainable development in the hospitality and tourism sector: legislative requirements, trends and challenges” took place in Bukovel. The event was organised by EVERLEGAL in cooperation with the Bukovel Sustainable Development Office and the Professional Association of Environmentalists of the World, with the support of the Yaremche Hotel and Guesthouse Owners Association NGO and HVOYA Apartment Hotel.

During two dedicated sessions, experts representing public institutions, the tourism sector, the hospitality industry and the sustainability field discussed how environmental compliance, emerging legislative priorities and green financing instruments are shaping modern hospitality. Particular attention was given to practical solutions for hotel and restaurant businesses, ranging from the implementation of sustainable practices to efficient resource management and enhanced energy resilience.

As noted by the event moderator, EVERLEGAL Partner Oleksandr Ruzhytskyi:

“The hospitality sector is currently operating in challenging conditions. Businesses face significant resource costs, complex waste management issues and the need to modernise infrastructure on a daily basis. Sustainable solutions help organisations strike the right balance and build processes that remain effective and resilient over time. At EVERLEGAL, we support companies in implementing these changes. We help develop environmental strategies, ensure compliance with applicable standards and structure business processes in a way that enables green approaches to deliver tangible results. These steps form the foundation for the development of modern hospitality in Ukraine.”

EVERLEGAL Attorney Lesia Baginska emphasised in her presentation:

“Environmental compliance in the hospitality sector is not merely a matter of formal requirements. It is the foundation of high-quality service, safety and reputation. Businesses that adopt a sustainability-focused mindset gain not only compliance with standards but also the trust of guests and business partners.”

The event served as an effective platform for professional knowledge-sharing and in-depth discussion of practical steps towards sustainable development. Participants gained valuable insights into regulatory requirements, green financing opportunities and approaches to integrating ESG principles into day-to-day business operations.

We would also like to extend our sincere gratitude to HVOYA Apartment Hotel for its hospitality and support in creating a comfortable environment for professional dialogue. The venue provided the ideal setting for participants to focus on meaningful discussions and productive engagement.

We also express our sincere appreciation to all speakers for their expertise and insightful contributions, and to all participants for their active engagement, thoughtful questions and commitment to advancing sustainable solutions within the hospitality and tourism sectors.
